ABOUT JESSICA LOPA
Jessica has been teaching piano and voice for over 10 years. She has worked in the NYC public school system as a chorus and keyboard teacher for 5 years. She received her Bachelors of Music from the College of Staten Island as well as her Masters of Music Education from Hunter College. She is currently teaching at the music school at James Daniel Entertainment offering piano and voice lessons for students of all ages. Her teachings place a large emphasis on music theory which accelerate the students overall understanding of the nature of the keyboard as well as the human voice. Her students receive thorough training in rhythm, note reading, melody and harmony and learn to explore the keyboard through the use of scales, arpeggios and chord progressions; all of which are essential to a well-rounded music education. Voice students receive training that include the realization and use of proper breathing techniques, ear training as well as improvisation to develop and enhance the voice in a variety of musical styles. INSTRUCTION
At the James Daniel School of Music, students learn with instructors who have established excellent reputations in their fields and who are currently practicing their art. The instructors are dedicated to teaching the skills necessary in music to nurture and inspire a life-long enjoyment of music in a friendly and stimulating environment. All music lessons are private and are arranged for the student's convenience. Sight-reading, theory and technique are part of all instruction. Recitals are scheduled at the end of each semester with a recording session held each summer for those students who are interested.
PIANO/KEYBOARDS
This program is designed to encourage the student to develop techniques that will apply to acoustic and electronic keyboards. The program mixes traditional studies with contemporary approaches to scales, arpeggios, chords, and sight-reading.
GUITAR
Guitarists learn all the traditional and modern styles including: classical, jazz, pop, rock and the blues. Among the techniques taught are flat-picking, finger style, string bending and hammering. Students study scales, arpeggios, sight-reading and ear training to get a complete understanding of the instrument.
BASS
Students who study electric bass will learn the fretboard, scales, chords and arpeggios, which will help the student gain knowledge of the instrument. A wide variety of styles are available.
BRASS/WOODWINDS
Students will pursue technical studies that will prepare them for lead, sectional and various improvisational settings. Also included are development of tone production, sound projection, embouchere and breathing techniques.
STRINGS
This program includes techniques in scales, modes, chordal arpeggios and patterns in all keys and positions with a variety of bowings and articulations.
VOICE
Fundamental principles of tone production, breath control, dictation and phrasing are taught. The development of each students unique sound and style is nurtured and encouraged, whether it is classical or contemporary.
DRUMS/PERCUSSION
The percussion program is structured to give the student a solid foundation in all styles of music including pop, rock and jazz.
